Why is my iCloud account showing only read only calendars?
BusyCal and Apple Calendar Integration
To leverage BusyCal's full potential, users are encouraged to add their accounts (e.g., iCloud, Google, Outlook) directly to BusyCal. The Apple Calendar account option is not the same as an iCloud account.
BusyCal is designed as a complete replacement for Apple Calendar, Outlook, or Google Calendar. It directly communicates with your calendar accounts via protocols like CalDAV, Exchange, MS Graph, and WebDAV, providing seamless and robust integration.
However, in corporate settings, company policies may restrict adding accounts directly.
For such situations, BusyCal supports one-way syncing with Apple Calendar using its provided (but limited) APIs. This read-only mode allows you to:
- Pull changes from Apple Calendar.
- View shared work calendars.
BusyCal operates in read-only mode with Apple Calendar due to limitations in Apple’s APIs, which do not support syncing certain properties or allow two-way syncing.
Why One-Way Sync?
To avoid compromising the user experience by disabling or hiding specific options in the UI, BusyCal provides one-way sync. This ensures you can still access essential features while keeping your calendar up-to-date with changes made in Apple Calendar.
Unlock BusyCal’s Full Potential
For the best experience and to access all features, add your iCloud account directly to BusyCal.
